We’ve received requests from our community to extend our Lifetime Account Charity Fundraiser. You can now purchase raffle tickets until December 29 at 11:59PM CET!

This year’s Lifetime Account Charity Fundraiser is officially open! You can buy raffle tickets from today, December 15, until December 29 at 11:59 PM CET.

We’ll announce the raffle winners on December 30.

This year, we’re raffling 10 Lifetime accounts to support the following worthy organizations that you helped select:

You can read more about the work these organizations do later on in the article. All of the proceeds from this year’s fundraiser, along with our own $100,000 contribution, will go to these 10 organizations.

This fundraiser has become an annual tradition where we work with the Proton community to give back to causes that advance privacy and freedom. Over the past four years, we’ve raised over $1,000,000 and collectively made a global impact.

How to participate in the raffle

You can purchase raffle tickets from the Proton Shop for $10 each. There is no limit on how many tickets you can buy. Each ticket you buy increases the odds that you’ll be a winner in the raffle.

At the end of the fundraiser, we will randomly select 10 winning tickets. The winners of this fundraiser will receive their Lifetime account for nothing more than the price of the raffle ticket(s) they purchased.

All tickets must be bought by December 26 from the Proton Shop, and the winners will be announced on December 30 on social media and this blog.

Who we’re supporting with this fundraiser

Privacy International

Privacy International is a UK-based nonprofit that investigates how governments and corporations use technology and demands accountability when they breach the public trust.

We’re so honored to have been nominated as a beneficiary of the Proton Lifetime Account Fundraiser. As paying Proton users, it’s fantastic to be supported by like-minded people who share our vision for a world where technology will empower and enable us, not exploit us for profit and power. The funds raised will support our work to demystify tech, challenge abusive practices, and protect privacy around the world.

Gus Hosein, Executive Director

EPIC

EPIC, which stands for the Electronic Privacy Information Center, pursues policy, advocacy, and litigation to tip the scales of power on the internet in favor of the people who use it.

We at the Electronic Privacy Information Center (EPIC) are thrilled to be selected as a charity beneficiary for the 2022 Proton Lifetime Account Fundraiser! For nearly 30 years, EPIC has been fighting to defend privacy and civil liberties in an increasingly digital world. Your support will empower EPIC to further its work on emerging consumer privacy, surveillance oversight, AI and human rights, and other critical issues in 2023.

Alan Butler, Executive Director and President

The Human Rights Foundation

The Human Rights Foundation focuses on countries under authoritarian rule and protecting the rights of the people living in these countries.

Dissidents worldwide rely on digital security as a fundamental part of their activism. Technology that enables them to browse the web freely and beyond the limitations of censorship and surveillance should be spread far and wide. HRF is happy to see companies build products that further these aims.

Alex Gladstein, Chief Strategy Officer

Access Now

Access Now defends and extends the digital rights of users at risk around the world.

From Myanmar to Ukraine, the need to defend and extend the digital rights of people and communities at risk is ongoing — and we need your support! Access Now is proud to be part of such a dynamic, bold, and powerful force working for change, and we will reinvest the amazing contributions from Proton and our extended global community back into protecting and advocating for those who need it most. Join the fight for human rights in the digital age!

Mohammed Al-Maskati, Digital Security Helpline Director

Fight for the Future

Fight for the Future channels online outrage into political power by inspiring, organizing, and leading internet protest movements.

Fight for the Future is delighted to be included in Proton’s annual fundraiser. As a small, feisty organization of artists, activists, and technologists dedicated to defending our basic human rights in the digital age, this support makes a huge difference for us. And the issues that we work on, like advocating for end-to-end encryption, taking on Big Tech monopoly abuses, fighting for online free expression, and campaigning against facial recognition surveillance, have never been more urgent. We choose to stay small and nimble so that donations like these directly fund our campaigns for digital rights. We’re grateful for your support!

Evan Greer, Director

The Tor Project

The Tor Project developed onion routing and the Tor Browser to ensure internet users everywhere have private access to an uncensored web.

At the Tor Project, we’re very happy to work alongside Proton in our mission to bring privacy online to everyone who needs it. When you make a donation to Proton’s fundraiser, you’re contributing to a community of important tools and organizations that create the privacy ecosystem online. Contributions to Tor go to power our efforts to modernize the Tor protocol, build innovative anti-censorship tools, and sustain Tor applications that allow millions of people to use the internet safely every day.

Al Smith, Fundraising Director

Women Who Code

Women Who Code is working to create a world where women are proportionally represented as technical leaders, executives, founders, venture capitalists, board members, and software engineers.

We’re honored to be selected among many great nonprofits to benefit from the Proton 2022 Lifetime Account Charity Fundraiser. The donation will directly support our technical and security programming initiatives. This generous support will allow us to continue our important work and make a meaningful impact in the community. We are excited to see what we can accomplish together. Thank you for your support this season!

Alaina Percival, CEO

Ranking Digital Rights

Ranking Digital Rights advances corporate accountability for human rights in the digital age.

We’re thrilled to have been selected as one of 10 change-making initiatives to receive support from Proton’s grassroots community. This fundraiser gives Ranking Digital Rights an incredible opportunity to raise awareness about the human rights standards and rankings we use to hold tech and telecom companies accountable for our free expression and privacy online. And it puts support for initiatives like ours in the hands of the people most affected by opaque company policies and practices, where it belongs.

Jessica Dheere, Director

Qubes OS

Qubes OS is a security-focused, free, and open-source Linux distribution for personal computers that allows you to securely compartmentalize your digital life.

We at the Qubes OS Project are incredibly grateful for the opportunity to be part of the fundraiser this year! Our mission is to build an operating system that prioritizes usable real-world security for everyone. Your donation will support improvements to Qubes OS so that it works across a wider array of hardware, making Qubes OS available to a broader user base.

Marek Marczykowski-Górecki, Project lead

GrapheneOS

GrapheneOS is an Android-based, open-source, privacy and security-focused mobile operating system.

GrapheneOS is thrilled to have been selected as a recipient of funds from Proton. The funds raised will significantly aid our core mission of providing an operating system focused on security and privacy that everyone can use. Thanks to Proton, the project will have more resources to invest in expanding the team and working on new subprojects and features, such as scoped contacts, overhauling apps, and improving the user onboarding experience.

What is a Lifetime account?

Proton Lifetime accounts grant you Visionary plan access, our top-tier paid plan, to all Proton services and features forever, including any future services we launch. You’ll also get early access to new services and features so you can test them before they’re released to the public.

These accounts are transferable, meaning you can give them to a friend or family member or sell them on the secondary market. The last time we put Lifetime accounts up for auction in 2020, they sold for over $14,000.

Lifetime accounts are very rare, and we only make new ones available for our end-of-the-year fundraiser. This is your one chance to win Proton for life while supporting good causes. Good luck!

Your generosity is making a difference

The Proton community is known for its generosity. You helped us get our start as a crowdfunding project, and you’ve so far helped us support:

We hope that this year we can have a similar impact. We want to thank the Proton community for everything you have done and continue to do.

Please share any feedback or questions you have on Twitter(new window) and Reddit(new window).

Good luck again to everyone who buys a ticket in the raffle. Don’t forget, the raffle ends on December 26!

Happy holidays!
